LIFE TO THE TEST

New City Magazine - July 2010

To see everything as God’s Love

Felipe Jadlocon J.r, or “Dodi,” a civil engineer by profession, is married with 3 kids. Here he shares how he considers the painful moments of his life as sign of the love of God for him.

Since I met the Spirituality of Unity in 1991, I understood that God is Love and that God loves me immensely. I have had countless experiences of this in small and big events in life.

Some years ago, for instance, while I was at work, I received a call informing me I had to go to the hospital because my dad had fallen into a coma. In spite of my shock, I managed to pick up mom at her work place and together we went to the hospital.

My dad was in the ICU and later he was transferred to the ordinary room. You can just imagine our hospital bills! But believing in the Love of God I knew there would be a way to solve all of this, in spite of the fact that I am the eldest of nine and all my brothers and sisters at that time were still in school. My mom was also just a factory worker.

The only source of financial assistance I could think of at that time was my employer, but I hesitated to call the office for an emergency loan because of my outstanding debts. I asked God to help me and then, I also tried to do my part and I asked for help anyway. To my great delight and big surprise, my loan was granted immediately. They said they were doing this because of my good performance at work, but to me it was the love of God that meets even our temporal needs. After some days, my office even sent a letter to the hospital management stating that they would take care of all our hospital bills. I was really happy and relieved totally from my financial worries. I thanked God for His immense love and how he assisted in those difficult moments.

Another time my mom abruptly awakened me at 3:30 in the morning because our neighbor’s house was burning. We managed to escape from our house which in a few minutes was also consumed by the fire. We lost all our belongings that time, except for the shorts and the t-shirt that I had on me.

At 4:30 that same morning I called friends who were also living this life of unity to inform them about what had just happened. Here again I really experienced the concrete love of God which was immediate, because just three hours later I saw one of our friends arriving with a van full of clothing and household items for me and my family. We received lot of items, even more than what we had before, and so we shared them with our neighbors who had been affected by the fire. Then other people sent us a big package full of many things which we really needed. Abundant gifts arrived from other places. They were really manifestations of the immense Love of God for me.
